Book a Study Room

Guidelines on Study Room Use at TRU Libraries

TRU Libraries (House of Learning, Law, and Williams Lake) are shared spaces intended to accommodate diverse student learning styles including both solitary and collaborative study. These guidelines are intended to inform the TRU community in the use of study rooms including those for students (undergraduate, associate, certificate, or diploma) and for graduate students (certificate, diploma, master’s degree).

Guidelines: House of Learning (HL) Student Group Study Rooms

The House of Learning (HL) Student Group Study Rooms are intended as a place for TRU students to collaborate or study together. The rooms are shared spaces to be used by students in a collegial and cooperative spirit.

Hours of availability, maximum occupancy, room amenities, and other specialized details on each study room are posted in the description information on the library room booking calendars.

Student Group Study rooms are not intended for individual study; as instructional, tutorial, or examination rooms; or as meeting rooms for the business of the University.

Individuals seeking individual quiet study space on the Kamloops campus can use the Silent Reading Room (HL 304) or individual student study carrells on the 3rd and 4th floors.

  • Students reserving group study rooms must be currently registered at TRU.
  • Students must use the library room booking calendars to reserve a study room.
  • Student groups are limited to one booking per day for a minimum of 30 minutes up to a maximum of 2 hours per group, per day. The library reserves the right to delete multiple bookings beyond the first two hours.
  • If a room is not claimed within 10 minutes of booked time, the room may be reassigned.
  • Rooms are for group (2 or more students) study, not for individual study.
  • Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Rooms are not soundproofed so students should be considerate of others studying or working nearby and mindful their conversations or audio can be overheard by others. Please refer to the Library’s Noise Guidelines for further details.
  • Personal property should not be left unattended in the room. TRU staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please refer to the TRU Lost and Found Policy for further details.
  • After use, if the room has a whiteboard, it must be wiped clean, TVs turned off, and all waste thrown away or recycled. Any spills on tables or chairs must be wiped up.
